Ingredients
- 1 100 g packet smoked pastrami salmon
- 4 slices country-style bread
- 1 cup grated sharp cheddar cheese
- 30 ml (2 tbsp.) butter
- 1 cup béchamel sauce
- 2 tbsp. chopped capers
- salt and pepper to taste
Preparation
- Spread two slices of bread with a thin layer of béchamel.
- Add pastrami smoked salmon, chopped capers and 1/2 cup grated cheddar.
- Cover with the remaining slices of bread.
- Butter the outside of the sandwiches and toast in a pan until golden and crisp.
- Pour the remaining béchamel sauce over the top of the sandwiches and sprinkle with the remaining grated cheddar.
- Place under the broiler for a few minutes to brown.
- Serve hot, with a green salad if desired.
