Sweet and Sour Sauce

Sauce Aigre-Douce

Ingredients

  • 125 ml (1/2 cup) ketchup
  • 125 ml (1/2 cup) rice vinegar or white vinegar
  • 60 ml (1/4 cup) sugar
  • 30 ml (2 tbsp.) soy sauce
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 5 ml (1 tsp.) cornstarch, dissolved in 30 ml (2 tbsp.) water

Preparation

Combine ketchup, vinegar, sugar, soy sauce and garlic in a saucepan. Bring to the boil, then reduce heat to low and simmer for 5 minutes. Then add the cornstarch and stir until thickened. This sauce is perfect for Asian dishes, nuggets or stir-fried vegetables.
