Ingredients
- 2 submarine sandwich buns
- 1 bag pork meatballs in hamburger steak sauce, pre-cooked and vacuum-packed
- 1 small green bell pepper, thinly sliced
- 1 small onion, thinly sliced
- 1 clove garlic, finely chopped
- 15 ml (1 tbsp.) maple syrup
- 15 ml (1 tbsp.) butter
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- 125 ml (1/2 cup) grated cheese (cheddar or mozzarella, as preferred)
Preparation
1. Preheating
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).2. Prepare vegetables
Melt butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add the green peppers, onions and garlic. Sauté until vegetables are tender and lightly browned, about 5-7 minutes. Add maple syrup, salt and pepper, and mix well.
Empty the contents of the bag of pork meatballs with hamburger steak sauce into the pan with the sautéed vegetables. Heat for a few minutes until heated through.
3. Assembling the subs
Open the sandwich buns and lightly butter them. Divide the meatball and vegetable mixture evenly between the two buns. Cover generously with grated cheese.
Place the subs on a baking tray and bake for 10 minutes, or until the cheese has melted.
