Endive and ham gratin

ENDIVE AND HAM GRATIN

Portions : 4 - Preparation time : 15 minutes - Cooking time : 35 minutes

Ingredients

  • 8 endives
  • 1 sprig thyme
  • 45 ml (3 tablespoons) sugar
  • 125 ml (1/2 cup) dry white wine
  • 1 lemon, juice
  • 60 ml (4 tbsp.) unsalted butter
  • 8 slices cooked ham
  • 250 ml (1 cup) mozzarella, grated
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Preparation

  1. Preheat oven, rack in center, to 200°C (400°F).
  2. In a saucepan, bring salted water to the boil, add endives and thyme and boil for 8 to 10 minutes.
  3. Drain the endives.
  4. Season with salt, pepper and sugar.
  5. In a hot frying pan with 2 spoonfuls of butter, brown the endives over medium heat for 2 minutes on each side.
  6. Pour in the white wine and cook until the wine has evaporated.
  7. Wrap a slice of ham around each endive and arrange in a gratin dish.
  8. Pour the lemon juice and butter over the endive. Season with salt and pepper.
  9. Spread the cheese on top and bake for 25 minutes.
  10. Grill for 1 or 2 minutes and serve hot.
