GRILLED CHEESE WITH QUEBEC CHEESE, APPLES AND CARAMELIZED ONIONS
Portions : 4 - Preparation : 10 minutes - Cooking time : 6 to 8 minutes
Ingredients
- 2 onions, thinly sliced
- 30 ml (2 tablespoons) olive oil
- 125 ml (½ cup) dark beer
- 1 garlic clove, minced
- 30 ml (2 tbsp.) maple syrup
- 8 slices sandwich bread
- 30 ml (2 tablespoons) butter, softened
- 250 ml (1 cup) strong cheddar, grated
- 1 Granny Smith apple, thinly sliced
- 12 thin slices Oka cheese
- Salt and pepper to taste
Preparation
- In a hot skillet over medium heat, sauté onions in olive oil for 3 to 4 minutes.
- Add the beer, garlic, syrup, salt and pepper, and cook until everything is nicely stewed. Check seasoning.
- Spread butter on one side of each slice of bread. On the other side of four slices of bread, spread the stewed onions, grated Cheddar, apple slices and Oka cheese. Top with the last 4 slices (outer butter).
- In a hot, fat-free frying pan over medium heat, brown each side for 3-4 minutes.
