BOURGUIGNON-STYLE BEEF MEATBALLS

Serves : 4

Preparation time : 5 minutes

Cooking time : 20 minutes

Ingredients

  • 600 g (20 ½ oz) medium-lean ground beef
  • 4 slices Québec bacon, chopped
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 30 ml (2 tbsp.) olive oil
  • 3 garlic cloves, chopped
  • 5 ml (1 tsp.) dried thyme
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 2 carrots, thinly sliced
  • 15 ml (1 tbsp.) cornstarch
  • 500 ml (2 cups) water
  • 500 ml (2 cups) red wine
  • 1 Knorr homestyle beef broth
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Preparation

  1. Generously season ground meat with salt and pepper.
  2. Shape into golf-ball-sized balls and set aside.
  3. In a frying pan, sauté chopped bacon and onion in olive oil until browned.
  4. In a slow cooker, add garlic, thyme, bay leaf and carrots.
  5. In a bowl, dissolve cornstarch in water and add to slow cooker, along with red wine and Knorr broth. Add salt and pepper to taste. Add the meatballs and cook for 20 minutes, uncovered. Adjust the seasoning and serve with a hearty pasta dish.

Ps: It's also a good idea to sear the meatballs in the same pan as the bacon before adding them to the slow cooker.
