VIETNAMESE-STYLE BEEF

Ingredients
- 700 g thinly sliced beef sirloin
- 15 ml (1 tablespoon) coriander, ground
- 15 ml (1 tbsp.) 5-spice blend, ground
- 30 ml (2 tbsp.) sugar
- 30 ml (2 tbsp.) ginger, grated
- 30 ml (2 tbsp.) garlic, minced
- 30 ml (2 tbsp.) canola oil
- 45 ml (3 tbsp.) soy sauce
- 1 lemon, juice and zest
- Pepper to taste
Garnish
- Fresh coriander, chopped
- Fried shallots
Preparation
- In a bowl, combine cilantro, 5-spice powder, sugar, ginger, garlic, oil, soy sauce, lemon zest and juice, and pepper.
- Add the beef slices to the prepared sauce, stir and marinate for 5 minutes.
- In a very hot grill pan, brown the beef slices on both sides until browned.
- Just before serving, add a sprinkling of fresh coriander and fried shallots to the top of the strips.
- Serve with white rice and sautéed vegetables.
