Burger mactofu

MACTOFU BURGER

Portions : 4 - Marinade time : 2 to 12 hours - Preparation time : 5 minutes - Cooking time : about 5 minutes

Ingredients

  • 4 slices firm tofu, ¾ inch thick
  • 500 ml (2 cups) buttermilk
  • 5 ml (1 teaspoon) garlic powder
  • 15 ml (1 tablespoon) onion powder
  • 1 ml (1/4 tsp.) cayenne pepper
  • 15 ml (1 tbsp.) sugar
  • 5 ml (1 tsp.) herbes de Provence blend
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Breadcrumbs

  • 250 ml (1 cup) flour
  • 15 ml (1 tbsp.) ground pepper
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • salt to taste
  • Qs frying oil

Toppings

  • Burger bun
  • Salad leaves
  • Mayonnaise
  • Tomato slices

Preparation

  1. Combine the buttermilk, garlic and onion powder, cayenne pepper, sugar and herbes de Provence in a bowl. Add the tofu and marinate in the refrigerator for 2 to 12 hours.
  2. Remove and drain tofu.
  3. Mix flour, pepper and a little salt in a bowl.
  4. Roll each tofu slice in flour, then dip in beaten egg and flour again.
  5. In a frying pan, in 1" of hot oil, brown the tofu slices for 2 minutes on each side, until the breading is crisp and golden.
  6. Place the tofu slices on a paper towel and season lightly with salt.
  7. Garnish each burger bun to taste, then add the tofu.
  8. Serve with salad and home fries.
