Lasagna

Ingredients

  • 1 kg (2 lb) ground beef
  • 60 ml (4 tbsp) olive oil
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, chopped
  • 2 red peppers, diced
  • 45 ml (3 tbsp) tomato paste
  • 1 L (4 cups) tomato coulis
  • 1 L (4 cups) crushed tomatoes
  • 45 ml (3 tbsp) Montreal steak spice mix
  • 8 fresh lasagna sheets
  • 500 ml (2 cups) mozzarella, grated
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Preparation

  1. Preheat the oven, rack in the middle, to 190 °C (375 °F).
  2. In a hot saucepan, brown the meat in the oil for 5 minutes.
  3. Add the onion, garlic, red peppers, tomato paste and cook for another 2 minutes.
  4. Add the tomato coulis, crushed tomatoes, steak spices and simmer over medium heat for 30 minutes, stirring regularly. Check the seasoning.
  5. In a lasagna dish, alternate layers of the prepared sauce and the lasagna sheets, then on top, spread the mozzarella and cook in the oven for 30 minutes.
