Ingredients
- 1 kg (2 lb) ground beef
- 60 ml (4 tbsp) olive oil
- 1 onion, chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, chopped
- 2 red peppers, diced
- 45 ml (3 tbsp) tomato paste
- 1 L (4 cups) tomato coulis
- 1 L (4 cups) crushed tomatoes
- 45 ml (3 tbsp) Montreal steak spice mix
- 8 fresh lasagna sheets
- 500 ml (2 cups) mozzarella, grated
- Salt and pepper to taste
Preparation
- Preheat the oven, rack in the middle, to 190 °C (375 °F).
- In a hot saucepan, brown the meat in the oil for 5 minutes.
- Add the onion, garlic, red peppers, tomato paste and cook for another 2 minutes.
- Add the tomato coulis, crushed tomatoes, steak spices and simmer over medium heat for 30 minutes, stirring regularly. Check the seasoning.
- In a lasagna dish, alternate layers of the prepared sauce and the lasagna sheets, then on top, spread the mozzarella and cook in the oven for 30 minutes.
