Mac and cheese with bacon and turnip

BACON AND TURNIP MAC AND CHEESE

Portions : 4 - Preparation : 20 minutes - Cooking : 35 minutes

Ingredients

  • 8 slices bacon
  • 250 ml (1 cup) turnip, cubed
  • 1 beef bouillon cube
  • 250 ml (1 cup) water
  • 4 portions macaroni, cooked al dente
  • 500 ml (2 cups) homemade béchamel sauce
  • 250 ml (1 cup) cheddar cheese, grated
  • 250 ml (1 cup) mozzarella, grated
  • 125 ml (½ cup) Parmesan cheese, grated
  • 2 green onions, sliced
  • 90 ml (6 tablespoons) breadcrumbs
  • salt and freshly ground pepper to taste

Preparation

  1. Preheat oven, rack in center, to 200°C (400°F).
  2. In a hot skillet, fry bacon until crisp.
  3. Chop the bacon and set aside.
  4. In the same pan, in the bacon fat, brown the turnip cubes. Once lightly colored, add the stock cube and water, reduce the heat and cook for 10 minutes.
  5. In a bowl, mix the pasta, béchamel sauce, bacon, turnips, cheeses and green onions. Check seasoning.
  6. Pour into a gratin dish, sprinkle with breadcrumbs and bake for 20 minutes.
