Beef picadillo

Portions : 4 - Preparation : 5 minutes - Cooking : 25 minutes

Ingredients

  • 450 g (1 lb) ground beef
  • 60 ml (4 tablespoons) canola oil
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, chopped
  • 15 ml (1 tbsp) ginger, grated
  • 5 ml (1 tsp.) cinnamon powder
  • 15 ml (1 tbsp.) cumin seeds, ground
  • 1 red bell pepper, diced
  • 1 hot pepper to taste, chopped
  • 5 ml (1 tsp.) dried oregano
  • 125 ml (1/2 cup) tomato sauce
  • 125 ml (1/2 cup) green olives, sliced into rounds
  • 125 ml (1/2 cup) fresh coriander, chopped
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Preparation

  1. In a hot skillet, brown ground beef in canola oil for 5 minutes, until browned.
  2. Add onion and continue cooking for 2 minutes,
  3. Add garlic, ginger, cinnamon, cumin, bell pepper, oregano, tomato sauce, olives and cook for 15 minutes over low heat. Check seasoning.
  4. Add fresh coriander just before serving.
  5. Serve with rice or potatoes.
