Beef flank steak and whisky sandwich

WHISKY BEEF FLANK STEAK SANDWICH

Portions : 4 - Preparation and marinating : from 10 minutes to 12 hours - Cooking time : about 10 minutes

Ingredients

  • 4 fine Québec beef flank steaks
  • 2 red onions, sliced
  • 2 tomatoes, sliced
  • 8 green onion stems
  • 125 ml (1/2 cup) brown sugar
  • 125 ml (1/2 cup) whisky
  • 90 ml (6 tbsp) white vinegar
  • 15 ml (1 tbsp) instant coffee
  • 5 ml (1 tsp.) dried thyme
  • 60 ml (4 tbsp.) olive oil
  • 4 sandwich buns
  • 60 ml (4 tbsp.) butter

Toppings

  • 60 ml (4 tbsp.) mayonnaise
  • 8 slices Provolone cheese

Preparation

  1. Preheat barbecue to maximum.
  2. On the barbecue grill, on a barbecue mat, sear the onion rings, tomato rings and green onions for a few minutes on each side. Set aside.
  3. In a bowl, combine brown sugar, whisky, vinegar, coffee, thyme and olive oil.
  4. Add flank steak and marinate for a few minutes to 12 hours.
  5. On the barbecue grill, sear the meat for 2 to 3 minutes on each side.
  6. Open sandwich buns in half, butter and grill for 1-2 minutes.
  7. Cut meat into thin slices.
  8. Divide the mayonnaise, cheese, grilled onions and tomatoes, sliced meat and grilled green onions between the buns.
