Terrifying apple tarts

Tartelettes à la pomme terrifiantes

INGREDIENTS

  • 4 apples, halved, core removed
  • 1l (4 cups) water
  • 125 ml (1/2 cup) sugar
  • 5 ml (1 tsp.) cinnamon
  • Red and purple coloring
  • 8 tart shells
  • 120 ml (8 tbsp.) apricot jam
  • 120 ml (8 tbsp) almond powder
  • Pinch of salt

PREPARATION

  1. Preheat oven, rack in center, to 190°C (375°F).
  2. Using a knife, carve Halloween faces into the apple halves.
  3. In a saucepan, bring the water, sugar, cinnamon, salt and a little coloring to the boil.
  4. Add the apples and poach for 4 to 5 minutes.
  5. Divide the apricot jam and almond powder between the tart shells, place a half-apple on top and bake in the oven for 15 to 20 minutes.
